Phoebus Software – UX and UI design

Phoebus Software Limited, provides a loan and savings servicing platform to support a growing client base of banks, building societies, specialist lenders and third-party servicers. Phoebus approached Jumar to create a next generation platform, Phoebus 2.0, which will dramatically improve the User Experience (UX) for its clients.

The client

Phoebus Software Limited (PSL), provides a loan and savings servicing platform to support a growing client base of banks, building societies, specialist lenders and third-party servicers.  The modular, multi-currency software platform supports residential mortgages, commercial mortgages, specialist finance, savings, mortgage self-service, migration and securitisation.

Phoebus has received wide recognition within UK financial services.  It has been awarded best use of technology, Outstanding Corporate and Social Responsibility and highly commended for non-lenders innovation.

Challenges

Phoebus need to create a next generation platform, Phoebus 2.0, which will dramatically improve the User Experience (UX) for its clients.  The vision for the platform is to provide a contemporized User Interface (UI) for the existing Phoebus Platform based on an intuitive, configurable “User centric” design.

For this, Phoebus required a software development partner who would collaborate with them to develop a highly configurable, browser-based solution.  The partner also needed to demonstrate a seamless presentation of appropriate data and predict business processes using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).

To find such a partner, select companies had to undergo a competitive RFP process.

Neil Dyke, Chief Technology Officer, Phoebus, comments,

Jumar Technology was the best partner for this engagement due to its stunning reference engagements and the overall commercials.   Phoebus had included several other software houses in the competitive RFP process.  Jumar stood out through its desire to collaborate on an end-to-end solution versus the “body shopping” proposal of some other houses.

The solution

Before carrying-out the platform transformation, PSL wanted to visualise the intuitive, streamlined and business process driven Phoebus 2.0 platform.  This would then be presented to key stakeholders as part of its digital transformation programme to obtain buy-in.

Working collaboratively with Phoebus, Jumar led the development of a UX/UI design for a multi-device, cloud-based solution that put the user experience at the heart of its transformation. Within 4 working days, Jumar had created a new UI design using Adobe XD.  This then led to the sign-off of the next stage of the platform’s transformation.

Phase one of this development delivered:

A simplified user interface with contemporary design

A new modern, and intuitive, User Interface (UI) was designed which provides relevant information, through configuration.

Faster, intuitive system navigation

Navigation via complex menus was no-longer required, thanks to a simplified and consolidated design, and a focus on business processes, with searchable and predictive capabilities.

Visual cues to quickly identify the purpose of a customer call

Configurable and distinct coloured interfaces immediately highlight the demographics of a customer account: i.e. Up to date, in arrears, vulnerable customer, etc.

Additional security layer when carrying out customer security checks

A contemporary customer identity checking capability, to allow simple and auditable customer validation by call centre staff.

Benefits

– Phoebus was able to expand its initial scope of work, thanks to a 25% cost saving
– Improved user experience with extremely positive feedback
– Speedier sign-off process thanks to Jumar’s Project Management services
– A fully functional UX/UI design thanks to Jumar’s architectural expertise
– Board confidence in the digital transformation programme
– Minimal user training required thanks to intuitive design focused on business processes

After the successful delivery of phase 1 of the platform and meeting a third-party audit of the technology and processes as requested by PSL Private Equity Investors, Jumar in conjunction with Phoebus will move to the next stage of development.

Neil concludes,

Working with Jumar is like working with an extension of PSL.  The partnership and collaboration have been excellent. The team have really understood our challenges and have developed a UX/UI design which the team and key stakeholders have really bought into.  We are excited to see the next phase of the development.  The user interface will now reflect the breadth and depth of capabilities within the Phoebus application which are second to none.
